Health Tip for 3/18/2010 - Preventive Health

You want to be healthy inside and out, so you eat carefully and exercise. You manage your stress, train your dog, have fun with your kids and balance your checkbook, so nothing bugs you. So why would you ever need a colonoscopy?

Well, let’s start with the frequent pain in your gut, or the trouble you’ve been having digesting some foods. Once your doctor has ruled out some other things, a colonoscopy may be the only way to find out just what is going on. It’s also the only way to prevent colon cancer.

A colonoscopy lets the doctor use a small camera to examine the walls of the large intestine, to find and remove small tumors. Once you’re ready, the test only takes about 20 minutes, and it’s a painless way to make sure you’re absolutely healthy, from the inside out.
